The list of research from independent organisations calling into question the way that faith schools operate is growing ever longer.
As can be seen from an extract of a speech made last week by Accord Chair Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain, there is now evidence from organisations as diverse as the Runnymede Trust, the Institute of Education, the London School of Economics, Sea of Faith, the National Union of Teachers and the House of Commons Library undermining the claims of those calling for more faith schools.
In a wide ranging speech to a seminar hosted by the Manchester Centre for Public Theology, Rabbi Romain summarised some of the most important pieces of evidence that are illuminating the public debate about faith schools and the legislation that governs them and pointed out the striking similarities between the conclusions reached by different organisations.
Accord is not alone in believing that for the sake of individuals and society religious discrimination and biased RE should come to an end in state funded schools. By presenting a positive case for shared education which is supported by independent research and people of diverse beliefs, Accord hopes to demonstrate to politicians the urgent need for reform.
