Accord has published a new section to its website setting out information for staff, parents and pupils about their rights in regards to religiously discriminatory practices by faith schools, as well as concerning Religious Education, Collective Worship and Sex Education at all state funded schools in England and Wales. The resource has been produced following the many queries that Accord has received from concerned families about narrow or exclusive practices by schools.
Chair of the Accord Coalition, Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain, said ‘Schools should not seek to purposely blinker their pupils’ outlook, and families and staff should not be the victims of discrimination, least of all in the name of religion. Accord will not rest until such backward practices are brought to an end but, in the meantime, we hope these webpages will be of use to those who are keen to find out their rights, and if there are ways to find redress or alleviate problems encountered.’
