Progress at Reigate Priory School

February 13, 2013

The Accord Coalition has learned that Surrey County Council may suspend proposals to show preference to children seeking admission to Reigate Priory School, a non-faith school, who attend an infant school that selects pupils on faith grounds when oversubscribed. Accord wrote to the County Council a fortnight ago suggesting how it might amend the proposed admission arrangements so that it cannot be accused of indirectly privileging or discriminating against pupils on religious grounds. Council officers are now set to recommend that a change to the admission arrangements at Reigate Priory School should be deferred until 2014.

Chair of the Accord Coalition, Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain MBE, said ‘We welcome the County Council’s constructive approach, and will follow its proposed changes to school admission arrangements next year’.
