Accord meets English opposition education spokespersons

December 12, 2020

The Accord Coalition has extended its thanks to the Shadow Secretary of State for Education, Kate Green OBE MP, and the Liberal Democrat’s Education Spokesperson and Deputy Leader, Daisy Cooper MP, for having recently met with members of its governing Steering Committee. Both office holders were appointed this summer.

At the recent meetings, Accord highlighted a range of ways that the school system was failing to adapt to England’s growing religious and ethnic diversity. It also set out key reforms which would make the biggest impact in ensuring state funded schools were more religiously inclusive.

Chair of the Accord Coalition, the Revd Stephen Terry, said ‘Accord is grateful to both office holders for having met with us. We were also pleased by their appreciation of the impact that inclusion in schools can have in making society more inclusive, and by their recognition of ways in which people are being treated unfairly in the school system on account of their religious or non-religious beliefs.’

‘These problems are only going to increase as English society becomes more diverse. We look forward to the parties developing their responses to these growing challenges as they continue to progress their education policy priorities.’
